The value to the user of the Electric Vehicle product is that the system will ensure that the user’s EV is charged to a desired level at the lowest electricity cost. It is assumed that most EV owners will be on multi-tier tariffs, so it is unlikely that the lowest cost will be achieved by charging immediately after the car is plugged in; instead, low-cost electricity may be available during the night. Rather than the user specify when to charge, the owner specifies when the EV needs to be charged by and lets the system decide when it is the cheapest to do so.

Creating a modern workflow for EHC needs assessments
An Education, Health and Care (“EHC”) needs assessment is an assessment of the education, health care and social care needs of a child or young person. It shows whether it is necessary to issue an EHC plan setting out additional help a child needs, over and above what is available in a mainstream school or setting. Anyone can request an EHC assessment for a child, including doctors, health visitors, teachers, parents and family friends.
Once a request is submitted, the local council has 16 weeks to decide whether an EHC plan is going to be made for the child.
Problem to solve
The existing EHC assessment process was almost entirely paper based. To submit a request a concerned person was required to complete a form and post it to their local care provider, who then had 2 weeks to confirm they had received the letter. The rest of the process carried on in much the same way, with dozens of letters and long wait times with no communication.
This processed created a huge amount of stress for the concerned parent or guardian, who is constantly in the dark about the state of their application. It also meant they have very little interaction with the people completing their assessment, leading many people to feel their child had not been properly assessed.
It also creates a huge amount of administrative overhead for the local care providers, with dozens of pre-formatted letters being sent. Most local councils said the final software would be great value for money on postage savings alone.
Goals
-
A secure platform for all stakeholders to collaborate on EHC assessments, plans and reviews and to work remotely
-
Improved communication with contextual information at every stage, setting expectations of what will happen next
-
Multimedia areas for children, young people and their families to express their aspirations, putting their voice at the centre of the process
-
Automated task reminders and notifications when updates are made to help meet statutory timeframes
-
Local authorities and their partner agencies have more time to make a difference and focus on better outcomes for children

Simple, consistent design
A strict UX and UI style guide was developed to make sure that all elements had a logical and consistent design. The user must never be unsure what a question is asking or unsure which button to press. Inspiration was taken from the gov.uk redesign, one of the gold standards in information clarify.
Everything within easy reach
We created an information hierarchy to determine what was most important to the user. When designing the overview we used this hierarchy to make sure the most important information was always visible to the user when they needed it.
